When it comes to transportation costs, one needs to ensure that appropriate insurance for the vehicle is in place, there are a few important notes to consider. Caregivers can accompany clients on outings and appointments in 3 different ways:
Accompany the client in a cabor other third party transportation company. When a caregiver accompanies a client in a cab, the client will pay the normal cost for the caregiver's time. The client also pays for the cost of the cab. If scheduled in advance, the Alliance Santé caregiver can pay for the cab, and the cost can be added to the client's regular bill. There are no surcharge on the cab fare.
- Driving the client in the caregiver's vehicule. Many of our caregivers have a vehicule that they use to get to work. Even if a caregiver has a vehicule, it does not mean that they have the proper insurance to drive a client has a passenger. If a client wishes to have an Alliance Santé caregiver drive them to appointments in the caregiver's vehicule, Alliance Santé will ensure that the appropriate insurance is in place before booking the trip for an outing. When caregivers use their own vehicule to drive a client, the client will be charged the normal hourly rate for the caregiver, as well as a modest per-kilometer fee to cover gas and wear and tear on the vehicule. Alliance Santé as specific documentation that must be signed prior to taking on this service.
- Driving the client in the client's vehicule. Many seniors own their own vehicules, but are no longer able or willing to drive themselves. If the client chooses, the caregiver can drive their vehicule for outings and appointments. In these situations, Alliance Santé will request a copy of the client's vehicule insurance that will cover the additional drivers. Alliance Santé will obtain a copy of the caregiver's valid driver's license. The client will be charged the normal hourly rate for the caregiver, and there is no additional charge for transportation.
