For the government, supporting active aging at home is both an economic and a social priority. Delaying or avoiding institutional care for seniors is one of the major challenges of the coming decades in Quebec, in a context of an aging population and increasing pressure on public health resources.
By encouraging families to use private home care services, the provincial government invests in the quality of life of its seniors while reducing long-term healthcare costs. The home support tax credit is one of the most concrete tools of this policy.
Aging at home, in a familiar environment, surrounded by loved ones: this is the wish of the vast majority of Quebecers. Yet keeping an elderly person at home safely often comes with significant costs. The good news is that the Quebec government offers meaningful financial assistance to help cover those expenses: the home support tax credit for seniors.
In 2026, this credit refunds 39% of eligible expenses related to home care and support services for people aged 70 and over who reside in Quebec. And there is even better news ahead: this rate will increase to 40% as of January 2027, representing an additional boost for families who rely on professional home care services.
At Alliance Santé, all of our home care services are eligible for this tax credit. Here is everything you need to know to make the most of it.
The eligibility conditions are straightforward. To qualify for the home support tax credit, the person must:
There is no requirement to own your home, nor to have a medically recognized loss of autonomy. An independent senior who uses a housekeeping service or meal preparation assistance is just as eligible as someone with significant care needs.
Only expenses incurred from the date of the person's 70th birthday are eligible for that year.
All services offered by Alliance Santé are eligible, including:
Taux : 39 % en 2026 → 40 % à compter de janvier 2027
